Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA)

Prostate-specific antigen, or PSA, is a protein found in the cells of your prostate gland. A PSA blood test measures the level of PSA in your blood. The blood level of PSA is often higher in men with prostate cancer.

In addition to prostate cancer, other conditions may cause your PSA level to rise. Therefore, your doctor may choose to combine your PSA test with additional tests to confirm the suspicion of prostate cancer and the potential need for a prostate biopsy.
